On Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at approximately 5:35 a.m., patrol officers responded to the area of Fruitridge Road and Wallace Ave regarding a hit and run vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. When officers arrived on scene they located the pedestrian, who was down in the roadway. Officers conducted life saving measures prior to the arrival of Sacramento Fire Department personnel. Despite their efforts, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.
The Sacramento Police Department Major Collision Investigations Unit (MCIU) was called to the scene to investigate the incident. A preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian was walking westbound in the middle of the eastbound lanes of traffic on Fruitridge Road. While traveling on Fruitridge Road, the pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. The vehicle fled the scene.
The pedestrian is a male adult. At this time, the identity of the pedestrian is unknown. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identifying information after an identity is determined and the next of kin is notified.
Detectives are working with extremely limited information and have no suspect description at this time.
