On October 27, 2019, at approximately 12:03 a.m., patrol officers responded to the 2500 block of Traction Avenue regarding a shooting. When officers arrived on scene, they were advised that the victim was being transported to a local hospital in a vehicle. Officers conducted a preliminary investigation. This included a neighborhood canvass for witnesses and evidence.
At approximately 12:22 a.m., Sacramento Sheriff’s dispatch advised that they were on scene of a two-car vehicle collision at the intersection of Hurley Way and Morse Avenue.
Further investigation revealed a 28-year-old male, inside one of the vehicles, had sustained at least one gunshot wound. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries on scene of the collision and was pronounced deceased by fire department personnel. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. California Highway Patrol conducted the collision investigation.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators were called to both scenes to continue the investigation. At this time, a motive for the shooting has not been determined.
Detectives are asking for the community’s help in providing any information they may have regarding the incident.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once next of kin has been notified.
