The Sacramento Police Department would like to congratulate the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students, who graduated yesterday from the Sacramento Police Department’s Adopt-a-Class program!
Adopt-a-Class is a Sacramento Police Department Cops and Clergy initiative. This 5-month long curriculum based program teaches our youth life skills; with law enforcement and faith based leaders as teachers. The goal of the program is to teach our most valuable community asset the skills necessary to help them make informed decisions, and communicate effectively. Students also develop coping and self-management skills that will help them to lead a healthy and productive life. The curriculum includes the following life skills:
• 9-1-1 for Kids / What to do in an emergency
• Bullying / Fighting prevention
• Goal setting / Gang, gun, & drug prevention
• Social Media Responsibility
• Positive Behavior & Respect
This is the seventh graduating Adopt-a-Class cohort since we began 3 years ago. There have been nearly one thousand children impacted so far. This semester, the Sacramento Police Department adopted four classrooms. They included one from Main Avenue School, one from Glenwood Elementary and two from Taylor Elementary. The program culminated yesterday with a graduation, including a certificate and treats for the kids.
