On Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at 6:46 p.m., a Sacramento Police Department officer, was working supplemental employment at a local business in the 1800 block of 19th Street. That officer was hailed by a security guard regarding a male white adult causing a disturbance and refusing to leave the property.
The officer contacted the man and attempted to negotiate with him for several minutes, encouraging him to leave the property. The male disregarded the officer’s request to leave the property and continued to argue with the officer. When the officer attempted to detain the subject, a physical altercation ensued. During that time, the man’s dog became aggressive and bit the officer on his arm. The officer requested additional units for assistance. When officers arrived, the dog charged at one of the officers. Fearing for his safety, that officer discharged his firearm at the dog. The dog fled and was later located in a nearby business establishment.
It was determined that the bullet struck the ground causing fragmentation, which ultimately hit the security guard in the leg and the subject in the face. Immediately, the officers rendered medical aid to both individuals and requested Sacramento Fire Department medics. Both the security guard and subject were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their non-life-threatening injuries.
The dog was transported by animal control to a local veterinarian for medical treatment. After a medical examination, the veterinarian located a minor injury to the dog’s left rear leg. The wound was consistent with being caused by a bullet fragment.
