The Sacramento Police Department’s Major Collisions Investigations Unit (MCIU) is investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision involving a bicyclist. Detectives believe that there were witnesses to the incident and are asking anybody with information to contact the police department.
On February 2, 2020 at approximately 10:24 p.m. Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the intersection of 24th Street and Florin Road regarding a vehicle vs pedestrian collision. Officers arrived on scene and located a female adult who was down in the roadway. She had sustained life-threatening-injuries and was pronounced deceased by fire personnel. The involved vehicle had fled the scene. Officers conducted a preliminary investigation and determined that the female had been riding a bicycle.
Due to the fatality of the bicyclist, The Sacramento Police Department’s MCIU team responded to take over the investigation, and it is active. Based on the investigation so far, detectives believe that a white or silver smaller sedan fled the scene of the collision.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin have been notified.
