The Sacramento Police Department is relaying steps we are taking to limit the spread of COVID-19. The primary focus of the department is to ensure the safety of officers, professional staff and by extension, the entire community. Below are highlights of enhanced measures being implemented as of today.
What is the Police Department doing to ensure safety of our employees?
· Officers and professional staff are following safety guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the State of California, and the City of Sacramento to include practicing social distancing when possible
· Internal meetings have been restructured to include fewer personnel
· An internal team has been formed to ensure daily cleaning of police facilities and maintaining supply of officers’ protective equipment
· Eligible department personnel will telecommute when possible
· Department events and ceremonies scheduled through April are postponed
· Ride-along and sit-along programs with patrol and dispatch units are suspended
What can the community expect from the Sacramento Police Department?
· Officers may be wearing N95 masks, eye protection, and latex gloves on calls for service
· When contacting our communication center, callers may be asked additional questions from dispatchers or officers via phone in order to better prepare our response
· Be prepared to meet officers outside of buildings when possible
· To avoid unnecessary in person contact, all public counters at police stations will be closed. For information on how to contact the police department, including filing reports online, please visit: https://www.cityofsacramento.org/Police/How-Do-I
“The adjustments being made internally will help keep our staff healthy and able to respond to the essential needs of our city,” said Chief of Police Daniel Hahn.
The Sacramento Police Department will continue to monitor this rapidly evolving situation. At this time there is no change in the level of response provided by the police department. We encourage everyone to continue to call for police service as normal, and any changes to our policy or procedures will be communicated as soon as possible.
