Sacramento Police Department Response to Sacramento County Stay at Home Order

The goal of the Sacramento County Health Officer’s Order is to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus.  The Sacramento Police Department, through education, will help with this very important goal in our community.

General Details Regarding the County Health Officer Order:

  • The intent of the order is to ensure the maximum number of people self-isolate in their homes/residences.
  • All businesses with facilities in the County, except “Essential Businesses” are required to cease all activities at facilities except for “Minimum Basic Operations” when employees can comply with social distancing.
  • All in-dining at restaurants should cease, with the exception of home delivery and takeout.
  • All gyms, bingo halls, and card rooms should close.

People CAN leave their residences for essential activities such as:

  • Get food (ie store or take out at restaurant) or necessary services or supplies for themselves and their family or household members.
  • Go to medical facilities, obtain medication/supplies
  • Engage in outdoor activity (while complying with social distancing) such as walking, hiking, biking, running or equestrian activities.

All “Essential Businesses” are encouraged to remain open – these include:

  • Health Care
  • Grocery stores/food providers
  • Businesses that provide food, shelter, social services
  • Media
  • Gas Stations/auto supply/sales and auto-repair
  • Banks
  • Hardware Stores
  • Plumbers, electricians, exterminators etc.
  • Mailing, shipping services
  • Educational institutions that provide distance learning
  • Laundromats, drycleaners
  • Restaurants that provide delivery or carry out
  • Airlines, taxis etc.
  • Child care facilities (groups of 12 or fewer children)

A violation of this order could result in criminal or administrative penalties. It is important to know that the Sacramento Police Department’s primary goal is to gain willing compliance through education. Together, we will work to limit the spread of COVID 19 and protect the health of our community.
