The Sacramento Police Department continues to see a rise in gun related activity within our city. SPD officers have responded to 184 ShotSpotter activations in June and July of this year, which have resulted in the recovery of 395 spent bullet casings. During the same time frame last year, the department recovered 148 casings. In addition, the Sacramento Police Department has made 75 firearm-related arrests during the month of July. These arrests have included convicted felons, validated gang members, and narcotics offenders.
Proactive police work by our officers has resulted in nine separate firearm-related arrests in the past few days. This includes the seizure of two semi-automatic rifles.
“By taking these guns off the streets, our officers have made our city safer for the community and our officers,” said Sacramento Police Chief Daniel Hahn. “The Sacramento Police Department is committed to protecting our community and reducing gun violence.”
We urge the community to report any sounds of shots fired by calling 911 or the Sacramento Police Department dispatch center at (916) 808-5471.
