On September 5, 2020 at approximately 8:45 a.m. officers responded to an area along the river near Railyards Boulevard and Jibboom Street after an adult male was located unresponsive. When officers arrived, they discovered that the male appeared to have been stabbed. Sacramento Fire Department personnel were also on scene and pronounced the male deceased.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators have responded to take over the investigation. This investigation is still in the early stages and information is limited. Detectives are conducting a canvass of the area for witnesses and evidence. At this time detectives do not have a suspect description to release and the motive remains unknown.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased victim after next of kin have been notified.
Detectives believe that the victim may have been an individual experiencing homelessness and are asking any witnesses with information regarding this homicide to contact the dispatch center at (916) 808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357). Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000. Anonymous tips can also be submitted using the free “P3 Tips” smartphone app.
