On September 11, 2020 at approximately 12:57 p.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to a reported shooting on the 1000 block of Broadway. Officers determined that the shooting had occurred during a funeral at a cemetery in this block. Responding officers also located a vehicle in the area of 24th Street and Broadway after it had left the original shooting scene.
Inside of the vehicle were two victims, one adult female and one adult male, both of whom sustained gunshot wounds and were attempting to self-transport to a hospital. Officers immediately began providing aid to the victims, including performing CPR, until fire personnel arrived on scene. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for their injuries. The female victim is listed in stable condition. The male victim was pronounced deceased by medical personnel.
Homicide investigators have responded to take over the investigation. Crime scene investigators are processing the scene for evidence. This investigation is still in its early stages and information is limited. The motive for this shooting is still under investigation.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin have been notified.
