On October 5, 2020 at approximately 1:25 a.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Dry Creek Road and Harris Avenue. When officers arrived they located a solo vehicle collision in the area. Inside of the vehicle was an adult male who had sustained at least one life threatening gunshot wound. The male succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by fire personnel on scene.
Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation. These detectives are actively working to identify a suspect and motive in this shooting. Detectives will be working with crime scene investigators to conduct a thorough neighborhood canvass to locate witnesses and evidence related to this incident. Based on the preliminary investigation detectives do not believe that this homicide is related to recent shootings that occurred over the weekend. Additional details will be released as the investigation allows.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin have been notified.
