On January 1, 2021 at approximately 3:05 a.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the 3200 block of 42nd street for a reported shooting. When officers arrived, they located two victims who had sustained gunshot wounds. Officers began rendering medical aid and fire department personnel arrived shortly after. A 15-year-old female was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A male adult victim was pronounced deceased on scene.
Homicide detectives have responded to take over the investigation. Based on the preliminary investigation detectives believe that the suspect may have been known to the victims, but the circumstances that led up to this shooting are still under investigation. Detectives will be conducting a canvass of the area for witnesses and evidence.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin have been notified.
