The Sacramento Police Department wants to remind drivers that it is dangerous and illegal to drive under the influence of marijuana. Adults 21 and over can use marijuana legally in California however, state DUI laws still apply. Studies have shown that THC can slow reaction times and make it more difficult for drivers to judge distances when driving.
“We know that some people may choose to celebrate April 20th, and attend some events where marijuana is consumed,” Sgt. Ken Collier said. “The Sacramento Police Department asks that you celebrate responsibly and designate a sober driver if needed. Your safety, and the safety of our community, should always be a priority.”
If you suspect that a driver may be impaired please report it by dialing 911.
Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
