On Thursday, April 1, 2021 at approximately 1:21 p.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the 1700 block of Capitol Ave for a report of an assault. The suspect struck the male adult victim in the face one time, knocking the victim to the ground. The Sacramento Fire Department responded and transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition.
Officers were hailed regarding the assault and were able to detain the suspect who was still in the area. The suspect was identified as 24-year-old Daniel Tui. That day, Tui was arrested for felony assault and elder abuse charges.
On Tuesday, April 20, 2021, the victim, who remained in the hospital, succumbed to his injuries. Tui has been in custody since April 1 and additional homicide-related charges have been added. The motive for this assault remains unclear, however detectives believe that the victim and Tui were unknown to each other.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin have been notified.
