Fatal DUI Collision - Stockton Blvd and Lawrence Dr

On June 23, 2021 at approximately 3:34 p.m., a collision involving a pedestrian and two vehicles occurred at the intersection of Stockton Boulevard and Lawrence Drive.  The pedestrian, an adult male, sustained major injuries from the collision and was transported by Sacramento Fire Department personnel to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased by medical staff.

Due to the fatality, detectives from the Sacramento Police Department’s Major Collisions Investigations Unit (MCIU) responded to take over the investigation.  The preliminary investigation revealed that a sedan failed to stop for a red light, struck a minivan, and then hit the pedestrian.  The driver of the sedan and one passenger were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.  The occupants of the minivan were uninjured.

The investigation further revealed that the driver of the sedan, identified as 76-year-old Edward Johnson, was found to be driving under the influence.  Johnson was arrested on felony charges related to DUI and vehicular manslaughter.  He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin have been notified.
