On June 25, 2021 at approximately 3:59 a.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the 500 block of Kesner Ave regarding a ShotSpotter activation. When officers arrived, they located one victim near a vehicle. The victim, an adult male, sustained at least one life-threatening gunshot wound and was declared deceased on scene by responding personnel from the Sacramento Fire Department.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to take over the investigation. The suspect(s) fled the area prior to the arrival of officers and there is no suspect information to provide at this time. Detectives will be conducting a canvass of the area for witnesses and evidence. 

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin have been notified.
