On August 12, 2021, just before 3:40 a.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the 2900 block of Ramona Ave regarding a report of a shooting by an armed security guard patrolling an apartment complex. The security guard shot at two subjects he encountered on his route who were reported to be armed with a firearm. The subjects then fled the area.
Later, two subjects self-transported to a local hospital with gunshot wounds. One of those subjects, an adult male, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The second subject sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Preliminary investigation determined that these subjects are related to the shooting on Ramona Avenue.
Detectives and crime scene investigators responded to take over the investigation. The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation and there is no further information to release at this time. Detectives are still in the process of collecting evidence, interviewing possible witnesses, and canvassing the area to determine what occurred.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin have been notified.
