On November 16, 2021 at 10:20 p.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the 2600 block of 5th Street for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived on scene, they located two victims who each sustained at least one gunshot wound. One victim, an adult male was pronounced deceased at the scene. Officers performed emergency medical aid on a second victim, an eight-year-old female, who was transported by fire personnel to a hospital in critical condition. She later tragically succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators have responded to take over the investigation. Detectives will be undertaking extensive efforts to process the scene, canvass the area, and contact witnesses. This investigation is in its early stages and information is limited. The circumstances that led up to this shooting are under investigation and there is no suspect information to provide at this time.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victims after next of kin have been notified.
