On January 27, 2022 at approximately 2:40 a.m., Sacramento Police Department Patrol officers responded to the area of the El Camino Avenue overpass and Business 80 regarding an unoccupied vehicle in the roadway that appeared to have been in a collision.  While officers responded, further information was received that a second vehicle was involved and had exited the roadway of El Camino Avenue, coming to rest on an embankment near Business 80.  Officers from the California Highway Patrol located the vehicle and the vehicle’s driver, an adult male.  The male driver had sustained major injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, the male driver was later pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver of the vehicle on El Camino Avenue fled prior to the arrival of officers.  

Due to the fatality, detectives from the Sacramento Police Department’s Major Collision Investigations Unit responded to take over the investigation. Detectives and crime scene investigators conducted a thorough canvass of the area for evidence, witnesses, and additional information.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin have been notified.
