Homicide Investigation - Lampasas Avenue and Edgewater Road

UPDATE :

On June 2, 2022, responding Detectives worked relentlessly into the night, following up on leads developed during the initial investigation. During this follow-up, Detectives served multiple search warrants at near-by encampments. During the searches, evidence was located, including a loaded handgun. Based on the investigation, Detectives identified 41-year-old Kenneth Howe as the suspect. Howe was located, safely detained and later arrested for homicide. Howe was booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail and remains in custody as of June 3, 2022.

On June 2, 2022, just after 6:20 a.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the area of Lampasas Avenue and Edgewater Road for a report of multiple gunshots that were heard in the area. When officers arrived on scene, they located one male adult victim with at least one gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by responding personnel from the Sacramento Fire Department. 

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to take over the investigation. They conducted a thorough canvass of the area for evidence and witnesses. This incident appears to have occurred at an encampment that was occupied by numerous people experiencing homelessness. This investigation remains in its early stages and the circumstances of the incident remain under investigation. There is no suspect information to provide at this time. 

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin have been notified.
