Two Arrests Made in Hate Crime/Robbery Investigation

During the months of April and May 2022, Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to a series of robberies in which the suspects targeted Asian women leaving shopping centers in the Stockton Boulevard corridor.

During the robberies, the suspects physically assaulted the victims causing injury and stole thousands of dollars in cash, jewelry, and other personal property.  In at least one of the incidents, the victim reported the suspect to be armed with a handgun.

Detectives from the Sacramento Police Department Neighborhood Crimes Unit (South) began investigating the robberies and quickly identified the suspect vehicle.  With assistance from an outside law enforcement agency, the suspect vehicle was located and later searched.  During the search, detectives located evidence related to the robberies.

As the investigation progressed, detectives identified the suspects as 20-year-old Latravion Mccockran and a 17-year-old male.  Detectives served multiple additional search warrants, recovering additional evidence.  On June 15, 2022 the 17-year-old suspect was arrested in the City of Berkley.  During the arrest, two individuals with the 17-year-old suspect were found to be illegally in the possession of handguns and were arrested.  On June 22, 2022, detectives arrested McCockran in the City of Sacramento.  Both suspects have remained in custody since their arrests.

Detectives continued their investigation after the arrests and located additional evidence indicating that the victims were targeted due to their race.  On August 15, 2022, The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office added a hate crime enhancement (California Penal Code Section 422.75(b)) to the robbery charges filed against both suspects.

The Sacramento Police Department encourages any witnesses with information regarding this incident to contact the dispatch center at (916) 264-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357).
