Reckless Driver Evades Sacramento Police Department Officer Causing Collision

On October 7, 2022, at approximately 12:52 p.m., a Sacramento Police Department patrol officer was in the area of Franklin Blvd and 52nd Ave when they observed a vehicle driving recklessly in the opposite direction. The vehicle was driving in the bike lane at a high rate of speed and ran a red light. The officer was in a marked police vehicle, made a U-turn, and activated their emergency lights and sirens to conduct an enforcement stop. The vehicle continued driving recklessly, attempting to evade the officer. The officer lost sight of the vehicle. A short time later, the officer arrived at the intersection of 47th Ave and Franklin Blvd and realized a collision had occurred between the suspect vehicle, an uninvolved vehicle, and a pedestrian. The officer did not witness the collision. The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Three occupants of the uninvolved vehicle were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision. Based on the preliminary investigation, the driver of the pursued vehicle was identified as 29-year-old Shasha Adams. She was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries and after receiving medical clearance, she was arrested by the California Highway Patrol for the suspicion of driving under the influence.
