The Sacramento Police Department was awarded a technical assistance grant from the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance. This grant provides federal resources that will assist our department in our efforts to address violent crime. This assistance includes supporting law enforcement operations, improving officer safety, and building trust with communities.
Additionally, Sacramento was one of six cites selected as a new National Public Safety Partnership (PSP) site by the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance. PSP supports law enforcement in deploying evidence-based strategies to combat violent crime. This partnership will serve to further the Sacramento Police Department’s Violent Crime Reduction Strategy, which is a comprehensive data-driven approach to reducing violent crime in Sacramento.
“I am proud of our City team and the innovative approaches we are taking to support public safety. This is a great opportunity for Sacramento to expand relationships with our Federal Partners for long term results. This award demonstrates that the City of Sacramento’s efforts to reduce crime and strengthen communities are in line with national best practices,” said Sacramento City Manager Howard Chan.
“As your Chief, I am committed to doing everything I can, at every level, to reduce crime and improve the quality of life in our City. We are proud to join a number of select Cities in joining the National Public Safety Partnership to further develop our data-driven, evidence-based strategies to reduce violent crime,” said Sacramento Police Department Chief Katherine Lester. “This award would not have been possible without the full commitment of the men and women of this Department, the City and our Community partners to unique and innovative strategies that have now been recognized at the national level. I want to thank our City for approaching the challenge of addressing violent crime as a team- we all need to work together to hold those responsible for crime accountable, build healthy communities and invest in our collective future.”
