The Sacramento Police Department conducts comprehensive investigations of all fatal vehicle collisions which includes determining what, if any, criminal violations were involved. Fatal vehicle collision investigations are completed by the Sacramento Police Department’s Major Collision Investigations Unit. Due to the fact an on-duty Sacramento Police Officer was involved in this collision, an additional internal administrative review will also be completed. The final findings of this investigation will be given to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office for review.

On October 31, 2022, just after 8:10 p.m., a Sacramento Police Department officer driving a marked police vehicle was involved in a vehicle collision. The officer was on their way to a call for service involving a felony in progress. While in the area of May Street & Bell Street, the officer’s vehicle and a motorcycle collided in the roadway. At the time of the collision, the officer did not have their emergency lights or siren activated. The rider of the motorcycle, an adult male, sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
Detectives from our Major Collision Investigations Unit and crime scene investigators have responded to conduct the investigation. They will be processing the scene and canvassing the area for evidence and witnesses. The circumstances of the collision remain under investigation and there is no further information to provide at this time. Detectives are asking anybody who may have information regarding this incident to contact the Sacramento Police Department.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased after next of kin have been notified.
