The Rotary Club of East Sacramento just recently completed a fencing project at the McClellan Park K9 Training Center to provide for safety for both K9 officers and handlers when using the training facility and grounds.
“With our long history of supporting the K9 Training Center, we were pleased to be able to donate fencing around the workout area that will allow the K9 teams to do weekly obedience training and ensure safety for the officers,” states Amy Ruggles, President of the East Sacramento Rotary Club.
According to Aaron Thompson, Sacramento Police K9 Sergeant, “The new fencing is something we have needed for some time and it will provide a level of safety as we train our K9 officers that we have not had until now.” Thompson added, “The fencing along with recently added lighting for our carports, also donated by East Sacramento Rotary, helps our facility to truly be the premier K9 training site in Northern California.”
The K9 Training Center is part of the Northern California Regional Public Safety Training Authority (NCRPSTA)that serves many law enforcement and fire departments from throughout the region and state.
President Ruggles adds, “The agencies that use the K9 Training Center serve throughout our Sacramento and NorCal region and help keep our communities safe and secure. This is just one small way we can say thanks for all of the work these first responders do for us.”
The Rotary Club of East Sacramento was chartered in 1965 and its members have spent 50+ years identifying and meeting local community needs as well as being involved in global service projects. Most recently, the club upgraded a greenhouse at Tahoe Elementary School the club built, provided painting and van maintenance for St John’s Program for Real Change, and continued to support the Rotary International’s effort to eradicate polio in the world.
The K9 Training Facility is one of many programs of the NCRPSTA. The K9 center serves more than 20 agencies from across the region and state, including law enforcement and fire department K9 teams. The K9 Training facility has been in place for over 20 years and is the primary training site for the Sacramento Police Department’s K9 Team.
