Throughout 2020 and 2021, the Sacramento Police Department investigated several reports of a man prowling at residences in the Midtown and Colonial Park neighborhoods in Sacramento. Victims and witnesses reported that the man trespassed on their property, looked through their windows, and sometimes masturbated. These incidents were forwarded to detectives in the department’s Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit (SACA) who submitted evidence collected at the scenes for DNA processing.
As a result of the DNA testing from evidence collected at the scenes, numerous cases were confirmed to be linked to the same unknown offender. It was later determined that the same suspect had been involved in a similar incident that was investigated by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office. Through further investigation, DNA testing, and collaboration with investigators from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the previously unidentified suspect was identified as 37-year-old Juan Soto. He was originally taken into custody in October of 2022 by the Sheriff’s Office.
Soto currently remains in custody and the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office has since filed charges against Soto related to five separate Sacramento Police Department cases.
