January is National Human Trafficking Prevention month. The Sacramento Police Department’s Human Trafficking Unit investigates individuals responsible for exploiting others and provides victim assistance through non-profit partners such as Community Against Sexual Harm (CASH) and City of Refuge Sacramento.
In January, the Sacramento Police Department's Human Trafficking Unit partnered with the Sacramento Sheriff’s Office, the Sacramento District Attorney's Office, and the Yolo County District Attorney's Office in Operation Reclaim and Rebuild.
During the operation, the Sacramento Police Department and its partners contacted numerous individuals, which resulted in 5 felony arrests of suspected sex traffickers and 1 misdemeanor arrest for soliciting an action of prostitution. Detectives also located a 13-year-old who was actively engaged in commercial sex work. The juvenile was safely transported to a secure social services facility. In addition to arrests, Detectives provided outreach services and other forms of assistance to 8 adult sex workers.
The Sacramento Police Department remains dedicated to combating human trafficking in our community. As part of these efforts, the department will continue to conduct directed enforcement as well as work with our community partners to provide harm reduction to those affected by human trafficking.
