With an extremely heavy heart, we announce and mourn the loss of Sacramento Police Officer David Turner, who passed away this morning after a courageous battle with cancer he developed as a tenured officer.
Officer Turner began his career with the Sacramento Police Department in March of 1994 as a Community Service Officer before becoming a sworn peace officer in July 1998. Officer Turner worked several assignments in his career, including Patrol, Mounted Unit, Regional Transit, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, with his K9 partner, Waverly.
"Dave was the kind of friend and officer we should all strive to be," said Chief Katherine Lester. "Everyone who knew him loved him and his pup, Waverly, a dynamic duo of tremendous talent and kindness. His passing is an incredible loss for our department and Sacramento. During this most difficult time, my deepest condolences go out to Officer Turner's family, colleagues, and friends."
