Homicide Investigation – 3800 Block of 23rd Ave

On August 14, 2023, just before 9:25 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to the 3800 block of 23rd Avenue for a report of a shooting. At the scene, officers located one female adult victim who sustained at least one gunshot wound. Sacramento Fire Department personnel arrived on scene shortly after officers and began performing life-saving measures. The victim was transported to an area hospital and despite the life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased.

Due to the circumstances, homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to take over the investigation. They will be processing the scene, canvassing the area, and interviewing witnesses.

A male adult suspect was detained on scene by responding officers. Through interviews and investigation, that male will be arrested for homicide related charges. His information will be released once he is booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail.

This investigation remains active, however, detectives believe that there are no outstanding suspects related to this incident and that this was an isolated incident.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased after next of kin have been notified.
