On August 27, 2023, at approximately 01:53 a.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 21st Avenue regarding a report of a collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist. Upon arrival, officers located a female adult with significant injuries. Officers immediately began rendering medical aid until the Sacramento Fire Department arrived on scene. Despite those efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased on scene by Sacramento Fire Personnel. The involved vehicle fled from the scene prior to the arrival of officers.

Due to the circumstances, detectives from the Major Collisions Investigations Unit responded to take over the investigation. They processed the scene and canvassed the area for evidence and witnesses. This investigation is in the early stages and the circumstances of the collision remain under investigation. 

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin have been notified.
