The Sacramento Police Department in partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, announces the arrest of 54-year-old Carlos Galvez-Ramirez in connection with an August 2017 sexual assault case. In cases like this, it is only through partnerships with our law enforcement partners, that closure can be brought to the victims.
This case was originally investigated by the Sacramento Police Department’s Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit (SACA). In April 2018, SACA detectives worked with the Sacramento District Attorney’s Office to obtain a warrant for the arrest of Galvez-Ramirez. Detectives from the Sacramento Police Department’s Career Criminal Apprehension Team (CCAT) obtained information indicating that Galvez-Ramirez may be located at a residence in Mexico City, Mexico.
A federal arrest warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution was obtained by the FBI Sacramento Field Office and, with the assistance of the FBI Mexico City Legal Attaché and the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) Mexico, Galvez-Ramirez was apprehended by INTERPOL in Mexico City, Mexico, on June 16, 2023, pending extradition. Galvez-Ramirez was escorted back to the United States by FBI agents.
Galvez-Ramirez’s return to Sacramento County to face prosecution is funded by the United States Government’s “Project Welcome Home,” which provides funding to assist in the transportation of federal fugitives to the United States.
This arrest would not have been possible if it had not been for the coordination between Sacramento Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation Sacramento and the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.
