On November 30, 2023, around 6:04 p.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the 8100 Block of Pocket Road regarding reports of a vehicle collision involving several pedestrians. The vehicle was reported to have lost control before striking the pedestrians. Upon arrival, officers located three victims, a female adult with life threatening injuries, and two juvenile children with non-life-threatening injuries. Sacramento Fire Department personnel immediately began performing life-saving measures and transported all three victims to area hospitals.
The driver of the vehicle was located on-scene. 26-year-old Alethea Lee was found to have non-life threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
Due to the severity of the injuries, detectives from the Sacramento Police Department’s Major Collision Investigations Unit responded to take over the investigation. Detectives and crime scene investigators conducted a thorough canvass of the area for evidence, witnesses, and additional information. The collision remains under investigation; however, investigators believe speed and impairment were a contributing factor.
Lee was arrested upon her release from the hospital, and booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail for driving while under the influence and causing great bodily injury.
On December 3, 2023, Detectives from the Sacramento Police Department were notified that the female adult victim had succumbed to their injuries. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased after next of kin have been notified.
Detectives will book Lee on additional charges of Gross Vehicular Manslaughter.
