Just before 8:15 pm on November 22, Sacramento Police Officers responded to reports of a solo vehicle collision into a pole near Marysville Blvd / Los Robles Blvd. Upon arrival, officers located two occupants in the vehicle. The passenger, a male adult, was pronounced deceased on scene by fire personnel. The driver, a male adult, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. DUI was believed to be a factor in this collision.
Due to the fatality, detectives from the Sacramento Police Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) responded to take over the investigation. Detectives and crime scene investigators conducted a thorough canvass of the area for evidence, witnesses, and additional information. The collision remains under investigation.
On November 25, after being medically cleared from the hospital, the driver, 27-year-old Deandre Bess of Sacramento was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated charges.
The Sacramento County Coroner's Officer is responsible for releasing the identity of the deceased victim after the next of kin has been notified.
