Just after 12:45 a.m. on December 25, 2023, Sacramento Police Officers responded to reports of a solo vehicle collision near E. Commerce Way and N. Park Drive. During the investigation, officers discovered a bicyclist that was involved. The driver of the vehicle was transported to an area hospital for treatment for injuries. The cyclist was pronounced deceased on scene. DUI is believed to be a factor and the driver has been arrested. The driver will be booked once medically cleared from the hospital.

Due to the fatality, detectives from the Sacramento Police Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) responded to take over the investigation. Detectives and crime scene investigators conducted a thorough canvass of the area for evidence, witnesses, and additional information. The collision remains under investigation. 

The Sacramento County Coroner's Officer is responsible for releasing the identity of the deceased victim after the next of kin has been notified.
