On June 3rd, 2024, around 04:15 am, Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to reports of an assault in the 500 Block of I Street. Upon arrival, officers located a male white adult with significant injuries. Officers began performing life-saving measures, until relieved by fire personnel. Despite their efforts, the victim was later declared deceased on scene by Sacramento Fire Department personnel.
Due to the circumstances, homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to take over the investigation. They processed the scene, canvassed the area, and interviewed witnesses.
Detectives arrested the suspect, 38-year-old, Jacob Mandell, a male white adult, and a resident of Sacramento, after he was initially detained on-scene by responding officers. He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for homicide charges. Investigators are working to determine the motivation for this assault.
The victim has been identified as 56-year-old Kevin Brace, a long-time employee of Greg Padilla Bail Bonds.
