On Monday, August 12, 2024, just after 5:00 p.m., Sacramento Police Department officers responded to the 7800 Block of La Riviera Dr for reports of a shooting. At the scene, officers located a male adult with at least one gunshot wound. Officers performed life-saving measures until relieved by emergency medical personnel. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene. Officers located an additional victim down the street from the scene with at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital by the Sacramento Fire Department and is in stable condition.

Additional responding officers located a suspect leaving the scene. That suspect was detained and later interviewed by detectives. Through the investigation, the suspect, 25-year-old Austin Greer of Plumas Lake, was arrested and booked on homicide charges.  

Due to the circumstances, homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to take over the investigation. They will be processing the scene, canvassing the area, and interviewing witnesses. The circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased after next of kin have been notified.
