On Friday, August 30, 2024, Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the 1400 Block of Response Road for reports of a domestic violence incident. When officers arrived on scene, they detained a male suspect. During a search of the residence, officers located a female adult victim unresponsive. The victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. The suspect, 25-year-old Rahyme Johnson of Sacramento, was arrested for domestic violence and attempted murder charges.

Due to the circumstances, homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to take over the investigation. They processed the scene, canvassed the area, and began interviewing witnesses. The circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.

In the evening of September 2, 2024, the Sacramento Police Department was notified that the victim sadly succumbed to her injuries. Johnson will be additionally charged with homicide related charges.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased after next of kin have been notified.
