On Thursday, April 17, 2025, Officers responded to the 4400 Block of 71st Street for reports of a suspicious circumstance. Initially, a woman went to a neighbor’s house and reported that there was a man inside of her residence with a firearm. As officers arrived on scene, officers heard at least one gunshot from inside of the residence officers were called to. At that point, it was unclear if the suspect fired rounds at officers or at someone else. Officers set up a perimeter and began ordering the suspect out of the house.
Eventually, SWAT officers and Crisis Negotiators were called to the scene to take over. Negotiators established communication with the suspect and after several hours, talked the suspect into peacefully surrendering. The suspect exited the residence and was taken into custody.
Officers entered the residence to conduct a search. As they did so, officers located an adult female and an adult male, both with at least one gunshot wound each. Both victims were pronounced deceased on scene by Fire personnel.
Due to the circumstances, homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to take over the investigation. They will be processing the scene, canvassing the area, and interviewing witnesses. The suspect, 44-year-old Manfred Schield of Sacramento was arrested and will be booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for homicide related charges. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased after next-of-kin have been notified.
