On Saturday, November 1, 2025, just after 1:30 a.m., Sacramento Police officers responded to reports of an assault in the 2000 block of K Street. Responding officers located an adult male victim with blunt-force trauma injuries. Officers provided emergency medical aid to the victim until Fire personnel arrived on scene. The victim was transported to an area hospital. The suspect, 25-year-old Sean Payton of Sacramento was arrested near the scene and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges related to the assault.

On December 28, 2025, the Sacramento Police Department was made aware that the victim succumbed to his injuries from the assault. Payton, who has remained in custody, will be booked on homicide related charges. Our Homicide Detectives were notified and have taken over the investigation.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased after next-of-kin have been notified.
