On Thursday, March 12, 2026, just after 1:15 p.m., Sacramento Police Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 4000 block of Washington Avenue. Responding officers located an adult male with at least one gunshot wound. Lifesaving measures were attempted; however, the victim was pronounced deceased on scene by Fire personnel. Officers on scene developed information on a suspect vehicle related to this incident.
Due to the circumstances, Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to take over the investigation. They processed the scene, collected evidence, and interviewed witnesses.
A short time later, officers received a weapons call on Jeffrey Avenue with the same suspect vehicle from the Washington Avenue homicide. Responding officers located the vehicle and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended in the 3300 block of 12th Avenue. The suspect was uncooperative with officers. After an extended period of time and with the amazing work of our patrol officers, SWAT team, UAS team, Crisis Negotiators, and Canine unit, the suspect was eventually taken into custody. The suspect was taken to an area hospital for treatment, where he remained until March 17. 47-year-old Willie King of Sacramento was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on related charges.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased after next-of-kin have been notified.
