On Friday, March 27, 2026, at approximately 12:03 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department (SPD) Communications Center received an emergency assistance call from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) advising CHP officers were involved in a shooting. Sacramento Police Officers in the area arrived on scene shortly after the call for help came out and assisted with medical aid to the suspect until the Sacramento Fire Department arrived on scene. Despite those efforts, the suspect was pronounced deceased on scene by Fire personnel. A firearm was located on scene (pictured below) and was recovered.
Due to this incident occurring in the City of Sacramento, SPD will be the lead investigating agency for the officer-involved shooting investigation.
SPD Homicide Detectives, SPD Crime Scene Investigators, and CHP staff responded to the scene to begin the officer-involved shooting investigation. The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office is providing oversight by monitoring the investigation.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased after next-of-kin have been notified.
