On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, just before 11:00 a.m., Sacramento Police Department officers responded to reports of a stabbing in the 900 block of Del Paso Boulevard. Responding officers located an adult male victim, who sustained at least one stab wound. Officers rendered emergency medical aid util Fire personnel arrived on scene. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Officers detained an adult male suspect on scene.

Due to the circumstances, Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to take over the investigation. They processed the scene, collected evidence, and interviewed witnesses. The circumstances of the incident remain under investigation. The suspect, 46-year-old James Dougherty of Citrus Heights, was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on homicide related charges.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased after next-of-kin have been notified.
