Homicide Investigation - Update - Detectives Seek Assistance from the Community

On October 3, 2020 at approximately 3:30 p.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to a shooting where a 17-year-old male, later identified as Jaylen Betschart, died from the incident. The original press release regarding that shooting can be found in the link below:

Last year, Sacramento Police Department detectives were able to identify and arrest a juvenile suspect in connection with this homicide.  He is currently awaiting trial. 

Detectives are still looking to identify another suspect in this incident.  That suspect is shown in the pictures below. He is depicted driving what is believed to be a 2012 Dodge Avenger. He is described as having a large build and can be seen wearing a white t-shirt.

The Sacramento Police Department encourages any witnesses with information regarding this homicide to contact the dispatch center at (916) 808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357) or submit an anonymous tip using the free “P3 Tips” smartphone app.  Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
