UPDATE - Thanks to the diligent and dedicated efforts of our detectives, investigators were able to identify a suspect in this case. Our detectives, with the assistance of multiple specialty units, took 29-year-old Alex Brown of Sacramento into custody on the evening of October 16. Brown has been booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on homicide related charges.
UPDATE - Thanks to the diligent and dedicated work of our detectives, investigators identified 39-year-old Helen Burton of Woodland, CA as the suspect in this case. Our detectives, with the assistance of the Sacramento Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Detail, took Burton into custody on the evening of September 25. Burton has been booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on homicide related charges.
UPDATE - UPDATE: UPDATE: Locating Athena and Mateo are a top priority for the Sacramento Police Department. We will be using every resource we have and working with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners to locate these children. Athena and Mateo have been added into the Missing and Unidentified Persons System (MUPS), and this information has been shared by the California Department of Justice. Our investigation has lead us to know that the 2023 Honda Passport entered Mexico. Because of this, criteria for AMBER Alert is not met. We are working with our law enforcement partners and the media to share this information as wide as we can. The Sacramento Police Department has set up a Tip Line for this case. If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of Athena and Mateo, please contact the Sacramento Police Department at 916-808-0560 or missingpersons@pd.cityofsacramento.org. No matter how small you think the tip may be, it could prove instrumental in helping us locate these missing children.
UPDATE - During this investigation, detectives worked diligently to identify a suspect in this case. On July 28, 2024, 51-year-old Urberto Dotson of Sacramento turned himself in to detectives and he's since been booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on homicide related charges.
UPDATE - After over two months of extensive investigation and follow up, our department can announce that we lead an operation on August 28th that lead to several arrests made in relation to this homicide. 18-year-old Tashion Brown of Sacramento, 19-year-old Romell Brooks of Sacramento, and 19-year-old Khamari Stroman of Sacramento has been arrested on homicide related charges. A 17-year-old male juvenile has been arrested on homicide related charges. 18-year-old Calvin Warr of Sacramento has been arrested on homicide and robbery related charges. 25-year-old Dejon Paradise was been arrested on a parole violation. 48-year-old Tyron Moore of Sacramento was arrested on an outstanding warrant and firearms related charges. This investigation remains active and our detectives are working tirelessly to bring justice for the victim's family. These arrests would not have been possible without the dedication of our investigators, Problem Oriented Policing teams, Violent Crime Reduction teams, K-9 officers, and our SWAT teams. Additional thanks goes out to all of the outside agencies that assisted us in this operation.
UPDATE - The investigators in this case worked around the clock to identify and locate the suspects in this senseless murder. Through their tireless work, Sacramento Police patrol officers, K-9, SWAT, Problem Oriented Policing, air unit, and investigations arrested a 15 year-old male and a 16 year-old male in connection to this homicide. They were both booked into Juvenile Hall Wednesday night on robbery and murder charges.
UPDATE - After a thorough investigation by our homicide detectives, on June 20th, the Sacramento Police Department arrested 22-year-old Floyd Smith of Sacramento for murder charges related to this case. This couldn't have been possible without the assistance from our SWAT team, Sacramento County Sheriff's Office's SED team, and the tireless work by our detectives.
UPDATE - Our investigators have been relentless in helping the family in this case find justice. On July 10, Sacramento Police Department arrested 24-year-old Taquez Foster-Worsham of Sacramento. Working in partnership with our state and local law enforcement partners across the state, 28-year-old Jamar Anderson of Sacramento was arrested yesterday in Indio, CA. Both are facing robbery and homicide charges.
UPDATE - During the investigation into this homicide, detectives developed information that 30-year-old Jose Alfredo Cortes was a person of interest. On May 9th, Officers and detectives located Cortes, who had several outstanding unrelated warrants, and took him into custody. Cortes was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for his outstanding warrants. The homicide case has been forwarded to the DA's office for review.
UPDATE - Detectives in this case have been tirelessly conducting follow-up in this investigation. Today, and with the assistance of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office SED team and our Career Criminal Apprehension Team (CCAT), we announce the arrest of two juvenile males (16 & 17-years-old) for the carjacking that occurred shortly after this shooting. Both suspects were booked at Juvenile Hall for their felony carjacking warrants. The homicide case will be presented to the District Attorney's office for filing.
UPDATE - On April 17, 2024, Sacramento Police Department Detectives were in the City of Oakland conducting follow up on this homicide investigation that occurred in the City of Sacramento. Sacramento Police Detectives requested the assistance of the Oakland Police Department in apprehending the suspect. During that process, Oakland Police Officers were involved in an officer-involved shooting with the suspect. UPDATE - In our efforts to keep the public safe, our detectives have been relentless in their pursuit of locating the suspect in this murder. On March 3, 2024, 32 year-old Avonte Teasely was arrested for murder in Oakland, CA. Teasley was transported and booked into the Sacramento County Jail on homicide related charges.
UPDATE - Detectives from the Sacramento Police Department have been relentless in searching for the individuals responsible for the murder of the victim in this case. Through their investigation, detectives identified 25-year-old Isaiah James and 25-year-old Ayonna Burgos of Sacramento as the two suspects in this homicide. Thanks to our federal law enforcement partners at the Federal Bureau of Investigations, both suspects were taken into custody today in New York City. Both suspects remain in custody and face extradition to Sacramento for homicide related charges.
UPDATE - During their tireless investigation by our MCIU detectives, investigators identified and arrested 64-year-old Antonio Fragoso of Sacramento for vehicular manslaughter related charges. Fragoso was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail in the evening of January 12, 2024.
